Biographical Information

Versatile Corporate Spokesperson
With five professional championships to his credit, Andy is widely acknowledged as both an accomplished professional racing driver and a motorsports authority. His corporate work and non-racing activity is extensive and includes:
 - SpeedVision Network host and Sportscar expert commentator of the weekly "On Track" Television show;
 - Porsche host and narrator for the 1998 911 customer glove-box and dealer sales videos;
 - BMW seminar presenter, technical expert and sales motivational facilitator;
 - Ride & Drive Instructor for Lexus, Cadillac and Acura;
 - Test Driver for Goodyear, A.C. Delco, and Kelsey-Hayes.

A "Corvette Expert"

What does it take to be considered an "expert" Corvette driver?

In Andy’s case, the answer is racing a variety of production-based and made-for-racing Corvettes in over 90 professional races in nine different series, back-to-back Petit Le Mans race wins in the C5-R, three podium finishes at Le Mans, 11 race wins in North American championships, factory test driver, press day driver, and if you can believe – a Smithsonian exhibit - not to mention owning several street Corvettes over the years.

That brings us all the way to 2007 when Andy drove the C6-R to a podium finish at Mosport and on to 2008 where Andy has tested the baddest production Corvette ever built in the 620+hp ZR-1.

“I still remember,” he says, with a wicked grin, “my personal ‘Cannonball Run,’ a record-breaking time in late April 1988, between Detroit and Dallas in the #18 Corvette Challenge car, fully-stickered for the race track, to make it in time for a PR photo shoot before the first-ever race in that great series.”

C5-R  1999-2002   Andy was Team Captain of the GTS class podium-finishing #64 Corvette C5-R at Le Mans in 2000.  He raced the #3 and #4 Corvette C5-R in the American Le Mans Series – with back-to-back wins at Texas and at the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

Andy's third place podium finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in June 2000, followed by the close 2nd place finish at Mosport that August - driving the most high-tech, expensively-developed and most highly-publicized factory Corvette in the history of the marque - are further milestones in his remarkable racing career and his on-going involvement with the Corvette.

His 2000 win - in the last lap - of the Petit Le Mans is still known as the greatest pass in ALMS history.  In early 2001, his season started with a second place finish in the Grand-Am Rolex 24 At Daytona with Andy and regular co-driver Kelly Collins working alongside Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr.

In 2002, Andy and Kelly won the ALMS street races at Trois-Rivieres and Elkhart Lake, and scored their third-straight podium finish at Le Mans.

C5-R  1999  Andy was a regular driver for the Team Corvette C5-R since the inception of its racing program.

C5 - 2000
Andy raced a production-based Corvette C5 in the former Motorola Cup series.

Production-Based Corvette Race Cars -
Prior to joining GM Racing’s Team Corvette factory team in 1999, Andy had already raced C4 Corvettes in several North America professional series which gave him more experience from track time, and exposure from his frequent visits to the Winners’ Circle. He was a regular participant in the tightly-contested SCCA Playboy, Escort Endurance and World Challenge series, as well as two years in the SCCA Corvette Challenge sprint races - the short-lived series that became a launch pad for many of today's world class drivers.

Corvette Challenge -
1988/89 Andy was one of a handful of race winners in the million-dollar Corvette Challenge - a series that showcased driver talent in identical showroom stock C4 Corvettes with a performance option package spec’ed specifically for this series.  In 22 starts, Andy won Corvette Challenge races at Brainerd, Minn., Road Atlanta, and his favorite track – Road America, beating many seasoned, top-level drivers on his way to the top rung of the winners’ podium.

GT Corvettes - In the mid-90's, Andy raced the GTS class Corvettes for team owner Tommy Morrison in IMSA Camel GT races at Daytona, Sebring and Watkins Glen - co-driving with some of the world's most acclaimed Corvette drivers at the time, John Heinricy, R.K. Smith and Stu Hayner.

Street Corvettes – When the 1997 C5 Corvette production car was in its development process, Andy became the only non-GM employee ever hired as a test driver. He was one of the GM factory drivers on hand at Mid-Ohio for the press launch of the revolutionary Corvette C5-ZO6 in 2000. He remained on the test driving team through the C6 model development process in 2004.

Smithsonian Exhibit -
The #92 Morrison Racing GTS Corvette, with Andy's name still on the roof, is in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. - assuring Andy's place in the country's automotive history.

Andy's third place podium finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in June 2000, followed by the close 2nd. place finish at Mosport in August - driving the most high tech, expensively developed and most highly publicized factory Corvette in the history of the marque - are further milestones in his remarkable racing career and Andy's on-going involvement with the Corvette.

Personal car?   What else - it has to be a Cadillac CTS-V

Spare Time!
  In whatever time he has between racing and business endeavors, Andy tunes up with high-performance motor-cycles, the present stable consisting of a Triumph Speed Triple, a Suzuki 400 enduro and his venerable 70's Laverda Jota. He also likes karting and mountain biking. His personal fitness regimen has resulted in an ability to regularly do double stints in the C5-R - at temperatures of up to 160 degrees!  Andy's community service includes teaching safe driving to High School students in South Florida, (watch for Andy's new "Heads Up Driving & Riding" products coming soon)

  Racing Helmets  - His Simpson racing helmets, custom painted by Bullseye Visuals of Indianapolis, are synonymous with Andy's love of cartoons - this year, his helmets feature Ren & Stimpy, Southpark and Warner Bros. characters.
