Happy July 4th Everyone.... I came to the USA from the UK in the early 1980's as a computer programmer with 100 bucks and a job. I didn't get paid for three weeks... Never having the possibility of racing cars in the UK for economic reasons, I did not get in a race car until three years after I got to the US. I borrowed half the money from a very friendly bank manager and added that to my savings.
That money bought me a second hand IMSA Renault Cup car for $6,500.
It was street legal and I used to drive it on the streets to the race tracks, sometimes over 1,000 miles away. Using all my savings again, I started a computer consulting company in 1989 so that I could take the time to continue to follow my dream to be a professional race car driver.
Huge thanks to my 4 key employees who run that company for me these days. They allow me to now also follow my passion of working in the field of street driving safety with my Foundation. I'm very proud of the fact I became a US citizen in 1999. I am, and will always be, forever grateful for the opportunities this amazing country has given me. I wish you a very happy Independence Day America and a million thanks for allowing me to follow mine.
